How do I keep myself motivated?
Read the signs
The first month of the new year is almost over. Despite the speed at which time seems to pass, I still feel the world is standing still because we are too tired and depressed. There is a great deal of anticipation among us that the pandemic will eventually end so that we can return to our normal selves. Additionally, we are exhausted and demotivated. It’s normal and understandable, and we need to motivate ourselves to move forward.
Motivation: what exactly is it? It is about a strong determination to achieve something, whether it is losing weight, paying off debt, saving for retirement, implementing a difficult task at work, or if you just want to move forward. In case you have ever failed to reach a goal due to procrastination or lack of commitment-and who among us hasn’t?-keep reading.
Having said that, how do I stay motivated? Honestly, I’m not always so. I have my moments and days. With age, I’m trying to figure out which methods work for me and to make myself mentally strong by trying those. Let me begin by telling you that it is okay to feel demotivated, to slow down, to relax, to lose willpower, to feel depressed, and to stay in bed at times as long as you have a system that works for you to get back on track.
This is my system.
Follow a routine.
It sounds simple, right? Trust me, it works like a charm. In the early days of the pandemic, despite working from home, I would wake up early, post on my blog, enjoy the morning weather, take a shower, get dressed, and begin my day. I dropped all those activities over time, started my day late, and spent my first hour in bed, and this totally demotivated me. As a result, I’ve started seeing everything around me as negative energy, and that’s not healthy. I returned to my normal routine. It doesn’t have to be the same for everyone, I’m not the kind of person who says get up in the morning and that will help, no, I’m not saying that. Simply “keep it real” and follow your own routine, that is all I am saying.
Clear your mind.
Ask yourself: What’s bothering you at the moment? Perhaps you are overanalyzing something in your subconscious mind so much that you find it difficult to focus or feel motivated. If you were to ask yourself the question early on and get on top of it, it would be better. Cluttered minds make it impossible to accomplish much, so declutter your mind to help you achieve your goals.
Know your worth and boundaries
That’s a tough one, but it’s also important. Realize your true potential and never let anyone tell you what you can and cannot achieve. If your inner self is telling you that you deserve more, listen to it and let it happen. Be patient with yourself (Remember the old saying, Rome was not built in a day), and don’t allow anyone to demotivate you in any way. Failing isn’t the end of the world. Well, I’ve failed several times now, sometimes I had the feeling that I was being overly ambitious, no that may not also be the case. Self-doubt will kill your dreams more.
Having no choice
I know this won’t work for everyone, but for me it does. To keep me sane, I sometimes put myself in situations where I will have no choice but to succeed. Of course, I would fail multiple times before I made it, but eventually, I would succeed. Due to my non-immigrant status, I must continue working for an employer, do I have a choice to stay at home? Of course not, so putting yourself in a position where you have no choice but to succeed will definitely motivate you in the long run.
Final Thoughts
I’d like to end by saying what my husband told me keeps him motivated every single day? He said “you”. Interesting, isn’t it? Yeah, that’s true. For some of us, it’s just one person that drives us through the day. So hold on to whatever works for you.
The next time you feel demotivated, Listen to this (Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish)
Thanks much. Until Next time..
